Distinctive features of drought-related claims

Drought is an unusual claim, both in its type and the technical expertise required to process it. It actually has to do with damage caused by differential soil settlement, which is inevitably caused by a drought phenomenon. These most often manifest as cracks on the exterior or interior walls of the building.

Therein lies the difficulty of drought-related claims: is the disaster the real cause of the damage, or was it just an indicator of another problem? This is the question that must be proactively answered in the drought loss adjustment, given the urgency of the situation.

Intervention subject to orders issued by the authorities

It is essential to detect as soon as possible the files that have been closed, i.e. claims not caused by the drought. Armed with a predictive tool developed in-house, the teams in the prequalification unit intervene and examine certain criteria to determine the nature of each file. This pre-qualification allows the specialist experts to deal with the most important cases on site. At the same time, an administrative hub handles the large increase in claims and assignments and monitors the progress of the files.

With a team of more than 125 drought experts, they are trained to combine technical expertise and pedagogy in the most critical situations. When the damage is covered by the natural disaster guarantee, the Stelliant Expertise teams, mandated by the insurers, intervene to assess the damage. Technicality, proximity, pedagogy and accompaniment are the key words during the intervention of our teams, close to the insured. Because the claims caused by drought are complex, a dedicated process with a single contact person is established, including total management of the case until it is resolved.

Drought assessment backed by the Group’s solutions

Drought can cause significant damage, in particular land subsidence, often causing more or less serious cracks in the walls or foundations of a house. This is why, for more than 30 years, the Stelliant Group has been assisting insurance professionals and policyholders in resolving their claims throughout the risk chain. Thus, when an event such as drought occurs, whatever the issue, the Stelliant Group offers a range of services from risk prevention to claim repair.

Even when it has been established that the drought was not the cause of the loss, Stelliant supports the insured by offering solutions (even outside the scope of the guarantee) to limit the impact of the pathologies observed. The Group thus offers remedial solutions through the intervention of its teams dedicated to the repair of claims. With expertise in more than 25 building trades, and covering the whole of France, policyholders can have their property repaired.

In order to extend this repair offer to the highly regulated construction sector, we offer and carry out technical studies on damaged structures on behalf of insurers, property managers and major project owners.

Once dispatched to the site, our engineers, specialists in geotechnics, infrastructure and superstructures, carry out field diagnostics using state-of-the-art tools and adapted software.
