The renewable energy sector is experiencing an unprecedented boom. For several years now, we have been witnessing exponential growth in the production of electricity from wind and photovoltaic sources. Not forgetting hydroelectricity, the leading renewable energy source in France. However, these future technologies have brought in their wake a multitude of new risks. This trend is not likely to be reversed, as many innovations are still to come in this constantly evolving sector.

New energies, new claims

Renewable energy production systems are exposed to myriad risks due to their technical and diverse nature. Wind turbines and photovoltaic panels, in particular, can suffer losses from a wide range of causes: equipment transportation, installation problems, electrical malfunction, fires, theft, vandalism, natural disaster, etc.

But let’s not forget about other types of facilities, starting with hydropower plants, which are the largest source of renewable energy in France. From turbine transportation to machine breakdowns to water and electricity damage, there are many potential hazards…

Geothermal and biomass energy, which are in the midst of rapid development, are also giving rise to new types of claims. The first raises risks related to drilling, environmental disturbance and noise pollution. As for biomass, it can cause fires (or even explosions), environmental problems related to treating digestate (solid or liquid waste from the methanisation process), but also olfactory pollution.

Specialist loss adjusters in renewable energy

Whether it is a large-scale serial disaster or an isolated incident, the Stelliant group mobilises its specialist renewable energy loss adjusters quickly and efficiently.

Whether it’s the collapse of a hydroelectric dam, the breakage of a wind turbine blade or a fire in the inverter of a solar panel, our loss adjusters assist companies and their insurers from start to finish, from the identification of the causes of the loss to the quantification of the operating losses incurred.

Our financial experts are then able to determine the financial losses and the loss of opportunity for investors in RE projects. This is valuable assistance in a sector that is still in its infancy, enabling each affected company to look forward to the future again.

Complementary energies at the service of know-how

Electricity, electrical engineering, fire, mechanics, construction, civil engineering… Renewable energy production systems require skills in various specific fields.

When necessary, the renewable energy loss adjuster draws on the other skills present within the Group to provide a comprehensive response to several aspects of the same claim.

For example, when faced with the risk of fire that threatens any renewable energy production facility, we mobilise INQUEST and its Research into the Causes and Circumstances of Fire (RCCF) unit.

Its missions are diverse: to provide measurable data in order to provide concrete answers to technical hypotheses; to establish recommendations for risk control; to investigate the causes of risk occurrence; and also to provide decision support for the management of claims.
