Intervening in many industrial production processes, chemicals and petrochemicals are also found in most consumer goods: textiles, innovative materials, cosmetics, household products, coatings, etc. The complexity of the physical phenomena that it involves, are difficult to be controlled, makes the sector particularly vulnerable to the risk of defective finished or semi-finished products, but also for the safety of populations and the environment. In addition to responsiveness and knowledge of regulations, our teams offer a range of skills essential to technical investigations: chemistry, mechanics, materials, electricity, thermal, etc.

Explosive and highly complex claims

Petrochemistry and chemistry are at the centre of many industrial production processes: electronics, agriculture, plastics processes, cosmetics, housing, pharmaceuticals, etc. This wide range of uses increases the risk of incidents. The development of oil and gas means that consumer goods can be produced through complex chemical processes. The chemical processes used, however, are complex and difficult to master perfectly. That leaves the door open to all sorts of risks such as the production of semi-finished products or products that are finished but harmful.

Incidents with a wide variety of potential causes and consequences and different degrees of severity:

  • Bodily or material damage after a fire caused by human error when mixing chemical substances.
  • Environmental pollution due to leaking valves on a nitric acid tank.
  • Explosion of a pipe supplying a steam-generating boiler at a petrochemical site.
  • Rail service disruption after a fire in a neighbouring building storing solvents from a chemical plant, etc.

Repercussions from a chemical incident can be major and take many forms: human, material, financial or environmental.  Although many measures are in place to make these at-risk sites safer (holding tanks, washing towers), risks can still be significant.

When an incident occurs, it is crucial to respond quickly. Stelliant Loss Adjusting and its teams are mindful of the risk for people and the environment, which is why they make it their mission to do an oil and gas loss adjustment as quickly as possible.

Our expertise, the right formula

Responsiveness is the watchword of our specialist experts, once assigned by an insurer on an incident involving, for example, a petrochemical industry. Remote expertise can be considered in some cases to save valuable time, before deployment on site.

We compose our response teams according to the nature of the incident. For example, during a general power cut, the equipment of a petrochemical site (steam crackers, reactors, auxiliaries, etc.) may suffer damage resulting in an operating loss. We then deploy an operational unit to quantify material damage, assess non-material damage and establish the liability regime.

Specialists in chemistry, some with a doctorate, our Stelliant Expertise experts are fully aware of the standards and regulations: MASE reference (Manual for the Improvement of Company Safety), new nomenclature of Classified Installations for Environmental Protection (ICPE) ) and Seveso 3 Directive which entered into force in June 2015 …

Additional services to the oil and gas adjustment

Electricity, chemistry, mechanics, thermal … Our experts have complementary skills, put into perspective with a global offer that offers a complete response, a turnkey solution to insurers and their policyholders, businesses and professionals affected.

In the context of a disaster in an industrial environment, we ask our post-disaster solution subsidiary to offer decontamination within 48 hours, carried out by specialized and experienced technicians throughout France.
